I think you're right. Boober's high-strung, to the point of often screaming and jumping (or even falling down) when someone calls his name, so of course he's going to freak at first. But I like to think that eventually Red gets a feel for his boundaries, and he develops a tolerance for her pranks. Depending on the situation, this might even be a friendly overture.
