So after my Kermit build the replica bug has bitten me Decided to go for another hero of mine from childhood: Bert! Finished his head yesterday, now on to body and shirt still.

Great job! Don't you wish you could just buy Ernie and Bert shirt fabric? Heck I'd buy a shirt made of it... I've seen one in a t shirt but it's just printed and not knitted. Part of my decision to make a Roosevelt Franklin puppet was because I found an orange and white knitted t shirt I knew I could dye to make Roosevelt's shirt.

That is very true! The shirts are extremely difficult to get right. Short of having the fabric custom made you really need a huge stroke of luck to find something that looks close enough.
