As far as Medicare or Medicaid goes, a lot of doctors are dropping them because they're getting lower reimbursements. Where a fee for a treatment might be $100, they might only get $30 from Medicare. Some might think all doctors are rich, but after spending years in medical school, residency, and dealing with buying expensive equipment before they see their first patient, not all doctors are living on Easy Street. A good number of them will take a cut in fees because they know some patients can't afford it, but ethically do not want to deny patients treatment. It's not like in the days of Little House on the Prairie where you can pay Doc Baker with a chicken.
I think it's better to have privatized healthcarethan a big government subsidized entity. Under privatization, competition will help to lower prices, making it more affordable to more people.
That's how it has worked with other products in the past- electronics, cars, food, you name it. Something that may have started out expensive, over time prices came downturn more competition came in. If healthcare was totally run by the government, where's the incentive to lower prices?
