It certainly won't have a Christmas DVD release in the UK this year as it hasn't been cleared yet by the BBFC though you could buy it from the states if you have a multi-region player.

As for a TV airing - i haven't heard for sure if it will air this year but i've seen the schedules for BBC1 & BBC2 and it definitely is not appearing on those specific channels.

It's already available in the U.S. on VHS. It can be found at NBC's online store, as well as Amazon.com.

Unfortunately, it has not been announced for DVD.

Luke, I have a very curious question for you...how does British Television broadcasting standards differ from the US? I know in the Netherlands you can show endless amounts of nudity on regular tv. Movie wise in the UK I know sometimes R films get treated as PG and vice versa. But being UK Muppet airings usually show more minutes than the US, do you think it will be the same cut of VMMCM as we saw here?

In the UK we have a 9pm watershed. Anything considered unsuitable for children before 9pm apart from moderate use of very mild swearing (with a vocal warning before a show starts) between 8 and 9 is banned. The 9pm watershed isn't a free pass to have naked women gyrating across the screen at 9:01pm - we have to build up to things so you can only use so many F words between 9-10, introduce mild nudity between 10-10.30, and full nudity gradually after that. It can be very strict and governed by the indpendant television commision who can ask for a tape of the show and then ban you £50,000 for just one mistake and shut down the channel for a series of them but in my experience they are very inconsistant and it's a political thing. Movie channels have an earlier watershed (i think 8pm) and so can be a bit more risque - they all give movies there own ratings seperate to the theatrical ones and have their own guides to what a film contains, if you have to pay to view a movie channel it also means they can get away with more as kids couldn't just turn on and watch it as easily as say a network channel.

Moving abroad into other parts of Europe yeah standards are a lot more loose - i've seen UK game shows be converted over there into all out sex fests, it all depends on how each country views this in their society i guess ..... in places like Spain, France and Italy there is a lot more nudity on beaches and in the media and so people are more comfotable with it.

As the Muppet xmas movie is airing mid evening on a subscription movie channel i don't think they'll have any problems with the ratings at all - if it gets shown next xmas on a terrestrial channel like BBC1 then it should be fine as long as it's in a prime time or early evening timeslot. Typically though they'll probably show it a bit earlier and so a few words could be changed here and there but nothing drastic. I shouldn't think there'll be any difference between the UK and USA cuts aside the UK will see the movie commercial free like a real movie should be. They used to have to film more stuff for the UK TV series but thats because we can only show so many ads in 30 minutes and you guys in the states show another 4 minutes more than us - we don't have the ad breaks between opening and end titles like you guys do which i am thankful about because it looks cheap and crappy. I know a longer timeslot have been reserved for it than in the USA but i should think that'll be padded out by ads before and after the movie.

Thanks for answering some of my questions!

British Standards in theory seem a bit odd...does this mean a rated R film youd have to show out of order in order to accompany the nudity swearing and violence time slot? As theyd say in the UK 'poppycock bullocks' hehe

It is strange what standards are where in Europe. For instance back in the day they would show full frontal adult nudity on Sesame Straat in the Netherlands(not in a sexual way, just bath songs and such) Also in NL I hear they allow quite a bit of nudity but not a lot of violence.

Here stateside, a breast exam would be considered XXX, but ya can show people getting blown away.

Just bizarre who makes up these rules...in America violence rules, but ya cant show any toplessness.

The commercial thing is out of hand here, remember America is all about corporate capitalism, so to show a movie on tv is like a 45 minute block of commercials with actual movie parts thrown in.

And I hate how they chop up a movie. Unless its a movie about world war 2 by Steven Spielberg you cant show a rated R movie on tv. Gladiator was a recent example of how extreme ABC and the networks can 'Clean Flix' up a film. If I was a filmaker I wouldnt let the airline industry or tv networks butcher up my film.

Btw, perhaps IAVMMCM should have been TV-PG?

The same sort of rules apply here in Canada. We had the same cut as the Americans did (I watched it on both a Canadian channel and later that night on an American feed.) We usually get extra scenes up here when they exist, as was the case in the first season of Farscape and Muppet Show reruns, Fraggle Rock reruns, MFC, etc., etc. It has to do with commercial time up here. We aren't allowed to have as many commercials as is permitted in the US. To compensate, when there is a show that is made for US TV that airs here, we get endless "News Updates" because it counts as programming, not commercials.

I'm not sure this made any sense...
