Those puppets are amazing carved out of the solid foam how would you go about doing that? and also how would you go about making a pattern for the fleece to go over the top?
Ive been into a couple but most of them only seem to stock fleece that is patterned...i can't seem to find any that stock a good amount of plain fleece

Hey guys i'm wondering if there is any literature people can recommend that is good for puppet building? i have Puppet planet and puppet mania was just wondering if there is any others that people found useful? i've heard about he foam book but do people think thats good or not?
As a Noob i would take great joy in reading your guides and i do agree it would be great to be able to read a guide with embedded pictures i would personally find it really helpful
I don't know what kind he uses but in Frank Bearfoot my friend uses a camera in the head so it sees through the eyes which he hooks up to a small screen which he mounted in the chest i think near his head so he could see what the bear was seeing
I don't know how to make it, but good luck to you, and go to youtube and search for Frank Bearfoot. That is a friend of mine and he made frank all on his own just thought you could check it out

I just bought this pattern and it all makes sense till me up until the point where it says
"That’s it! We usually use some polyester fiberfill to round the top of the head a bit. You can do so if you wish."
This may sound like a dumb question but how do you attach the stuffing...

First of all thanks for the reply thats a very informative post and has helped alot. I found a foam dealer online but its not reticulated foam but its cheap so i may use that for my first puppet as a trial and then buy the more expensive stuff in future, and yeah your right its all about...
Ive heard mixed things about the foam book but i think i will check it out and i don't really understand foams what is reticulated foam? how different is it from others? sorry for my ignorance haha
ahhh a foam practice golf ball is a good idea i might try that also...its just with a ping pong ball i think you get a nice look cuz of the material its made out of if you know what i mean but a foam golf ball is deffinately worth a look
Whilst i have this thread going and am hoping more people will come back with places i can look at for foam, I have a question about puppet building and it has to do with eyes. I think ping pong balls or table tennis balls depending on where your from would make good eyes but how would you cut...

Hey luke i work at chessington world of adventures at the moment doing the puppet shows and skin work its a really fun job...where are you in london? have you ever made puppets? if so where do you get your foam and materials? just trying to get my head round all this haha :halo:
hmmm i havn't heard of that company, i will have to take a look. How large is a larger puppet? just trying to figure out if 1 inch fam would make sense for the type of puppets i want to attempt to make? this is all very confusing haha
