Dome Eyes
Thanks for the tip, Buck! I just ordered several pairs from McGinnis. When going through their automated paypal checkout, it generates the shipping costs, which can be quite high for just a few paris of eyes. So I called them directly and they were most helpful with a work-around for...
Worth the $$$
I bought mine directly through the Grey Seal site. I got both videos and the book. Even though I will more than likely never use their "nip-and-tuck- method, I still count it as a bargain to have gotten this much USEABLE information for $50.
When you consider the information...
P.s.
A quick online search yielded the following document that details street performing permits/restriction at Seattle Center. It would probably be an excellent place to start.

Busking
The laws concerning street performing (or "busking" as it is also known) vary by city. I know that in San Francisco there are very strict laws. You get a permit allowing you very specific hours and location to perform.
Some communities frown on street performance of any kind, while...
Thunderbirds
A friend of mine, Philip Winchester, is in this film. He was home for Christmas holiday, and we talked a little about it. He said that it was great fun to work with Jonathan Frakes (of Star Trek fame) and about how many hours he spent if front of a blue-screen!
I think that any...
Well stated, buck.
I don't think anyone here is suggesting that we send out the police to arrest everyone who has ever made anuthing that looks like a muppet. But at the bottom line, if (mind you I said IF) JHC wanted to tell you that you couldn't make any sort of replica, they would be well...
While I have never seen one of the "One Way Street" custom puppets, I have heard from several people who have owned/used them that they are the best puppets that they have ever had. And certainly worth the price.
One of my friends has a lot of Puppet Productions puppets, which I have used...
(Stepping briefly onto Buck's soap box)
Worth mentioning, too, is that the Eden and Applause items are licensed by the Henson organization for exactly the reasons that Buck mentioned. To protect their copyrighted characters, while still allowing the public to have limited access to them.
I...
Well, I finally got my digital camera to talk to my computer, so I thought I'd post a few pictures of the puppets I've built over the years. Each has a very brief description of construction materials and methods used.
You can view them at:

I found this link awhile back. I haven't bought anything from them, but they do appear to have quite a comprehensive inventory!

If you're looking for a "soft" mouthplate, Buck Beaver has suggested using plumbing gasket rubber. I bought a piece 12" square at Home...
Here's another thought to consider. Because of the styling you mention, does it actually need to be hair? You might find that a sheet of foam or fabric applied to the head with a small sculpted bun would fit the bill. Then you could streak it with black or gray paint to get the desired "combed...
I'll second that, Foz!
I would have to say that Buck appears to have more accurate information on a wider variety of topics than anyone I've yet encountered.
Three cheers for Buck!
The Theatreical Life...
Well, I am happy to report that theatre is very much alive and well in Montana. I frequently divide my time between four theatre companies and an opera company, leaving about 16 other local companies that I have not had the pleasure of working with. I tend to gravitate...
Types of shows.
Boy, no simple answers here!
Magic-wise I primarily do a half-hour stand up act for conventions, banquets and the like. But I also do strolling close up magic, and I have a full illusion show. (In magician's lingo an illusion refers to the very large stage effects ie. sawing...
Puppetry, Magic, Etc.
You know, I am constantly amazed at the associations people make about certain types of performers. When I mention to most folks that I am a magician or a puppeteer, they often say, "oh, the kids must love that!". I quickly tell them that while I do family shows, I don't...
Sorry about the delay...
Hey, Marc
Sorry I didn't get back to you right away...my computer is behaving rather strangely, and I've been working out some bugs so I didn't see your post.
Sadly, I do not have any other pictures available to me right now. My "real" camera broke, and my swanky...
Let me back you up here, Buck!
There are always more factors to these equations than we're aware of, but I know from personal experience what goes into a $250 half-hour magic show. One of the elements is tried-and-true material. I KNOW that the material I present works for my target audience...
