I completely agree. That has been one of the ways I have coped with my family. Someone once told me, "Asking for help builds strength." It's like lifting weights. A spotter assists with encouragement and pain prevention. Am I getting too metaphorical today? I sure-fire think so.
I LOVED watching the Snorks growing up. I grew up on all the '80s classic cartoons. I had no idea Nancy Cartwright was one of the voices. I should check if Nexflix has the seasons.
Has anyone ever made Snorks puppets? I think they would be fun to manipulate considering they are supposed to be...
The brilliance of John Candy's acting was his ability to play both comedic and dramatic moments (and within the same scene). I think a great actor, like Candy, needs to be able to play both.
Some entertainers today seem to be good at one or the other. Versitility and opportunity to use it was...
I grew up with cats. The latest and greatest are Mijo, 13, a seal point, I believe, siamese, and Blue, a russian blue, 2, with the most gorgeous grey coat ever.
They are so funny together because of their age difference. Blue always wants to play but Mijo always wants to sleep.
I'm very sorry to hear your family is so insensitive. I, too, have experience with difficult family members and, also, former friends.
I must place a disclaimer. I am not a therapist. I am not a psychiatrist. Or a psychologist. I'm not any form of doctor. Anything I tell you is from personal...
I agree, to a point. When such stereotypes indicate prejudicial connotations then it can get messy. However, rock ' n ' roll has been notoriously synonomous with negative and/or crazy behavior, according to mainstream society. Animal fills the stereotype of breaking convention. It's just ironic...
CraftyDen,
Flippin' awesome! Monty looks absolutely amazing. What is he like to manipulate? He looks like he could be heavy but seeing your amazing puppetry building skills I'm sure he's not. Where did you get his eyes? They're still my absolute favorite part of the puppet.
Absolutely nothing. I have a few family members that are drummers. They are also some of the coolest people I know. However, it's interesting that they made Animal the drummer. Is that an insinuation (that drummers are wild, crazy, and inaudible)?
Ringo Starr: drummer. Tommy Lee: drummer (but...
I think what many want is the old Muppet show magic. I believe that magic can still exist but we simply need to update the guest artists. Can you imagine how many people would watch the Muppets if Justin Timberlake and/or Beyonce Knowles guest starred?
The Muppets themselves would still be the...
Animal might be not be specifically descript physically but we do not question his animal nature. If we want to talk shop, aka recognizable puppet features, then we should discuss Gonzo. How long did it take to figure out who he was and where he came from? At least with Animal his name and...
Disney better put it out. Think about it. Puppets have been growing in television popularity. We have more shows today with puppets than any other time. Also, they have a guaranteed Muppet loyal fan base. Money is not made in trying to convert everyone to Muppetism but in those who already...
Puppetry rocks!
I have discovered my routine before a show. First, I eat a hearty carb/protein meal no later than 90 minutes before the show. Second, I rub monkey balm (which is a milder version of tiger balm and smells like a mild version of Icy Hot) on my arms and shoulders, especially if...
The Foam Book is a great way to get started with puppets. It's helped me. I ordered it for a fair price on line at www.abebooks.com. You can often get better deals with Abebooks than with Amazon. At least, that's what's been my experience. Once you learn even a few of The Foam Book techniques...
Going well
:) Today was a much better day. We performed two shows in the morning. Dang, my arms were tired. But I had a serious carb/protein breakfast and stretched for about 15-20 minutes. Both helped tremendously. I was spot on today.
My arms did get tired but they did not stiffen...
Appreciatchya
Jinx & Buck-Beaver,
Thanks for your encouragement and advice. The first show went very well. I had problems with the puppet from the getgo, even though I had none in the last couple of days in rehearsal. I had warmed up my muscles and stretched well but my arms froze up.
I...
I had no idea Journey Back to Oz even existed! Thanx. I'm gonna look that up and rent it.
I just have to say. In Return to Oz I was genuinely freaked, and still am, by the Wheelers. I had nightmares of the Wheelers after I saw that film. Despite that I loved it. Pumpkinhead and Mombi were the...
Hmmm
I'm gonna throw this out there. But it seems that the older Muppets were a bit wider/thicker than the ones today. Has the entertainment world's obsession with thinness even reached our beloved Muppets? Or am I just crazy? :concern:
