Thanks for the links, Andrew!
dwmckim, thanks for the response. I'm going to be doing searching, online and off, on my own, but I was hoping to get the names of any cool stuff that people here would know of off the top of their head ... basically the things that are going on that they're the...
Hey all,
I'm starting a book, tentatively called "The New Puppetry," which would highlight a number of the new ways puppetry is being used, chiefly in the online space, but more broadly, anywhere in the world.
Much of the focus will likely be in the online uses of puppetry, but I won't limit...
I wrote an extra bit about it here:
http://www.hoggworks.com/2008/11/puppet-war/
But no updates other than that, really. Mr. Feldman has moved on, which is odd, because when he's attacking people who don't respond, he keeps poking at them, acting like the tough guy. So I think I...
It'd be foam for the head, with some sort of foam/plastic structure for the shoulders to help it keep its shape.
Layered material is an interesting idea, though.
Something I whipped up this morning:
http://www.hoggworks.com/2008/11/googly-monster-sketch/
What do you think? The eye-stalks are meant to be portable.
I think it was a joke, mostly, though I wonder what actual upset is under there. The guy, Feldman, has talked to a bunch of people as a puppet that I've talked to, and who've been on dotBoom, so I wonder if aside from his general level of dickery that he's actually already heard of Hoggworks...
I wrote a post today about taking the craft of puppetry seriously, which is here:
http://www.hoggworks.com/2008/11/taking-it-seriously/
One of the people who I criticized for not taking the craft seriously posted a vitriolic response to the post (though he's an angry man comic, so I doubt that...
I cut it with a pretty generous amount of a bleed, so that if it shrinks, I still have enough to work with. This might not be the smartest thing to do, but it's what I do, and I like to think it keeps me from dyeing too much extra fabric each time.
Puppet building isn't something so narrowly defined as building the body of the puppet itself; it encompasses all aspects of the creation of the puppet, and building the outfits COMPLETELY fits.
And, if I may put it less eloquently than Andrew has...
Put up or shut up, muppetinsider.
Be that as it may (whether or not what you're saying is even true), if you're a puppeteer, in the NY/NJ area, and you want some experience building puppets that will be used professionally, this seems like a decent idea.
Also, muppetinsider, dude, a thread about a job opportunity (which I would...
Here are the top-ten entries in the Design a Vader contest we're running over at AskPalpatine.com. One of these babies will get turned into a puppet:
http://www.forum.askpalpatine.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=52
We got 22 submissions, which just blows my mind.
I have a couple favorites, but I...
We may all be Muppet fans, but if I'm going to chat about the Smithsonian exhibition, it's going to have a different feel, as a person who makes puppets, than it would if I were a fan.
Similarly, you'd imagine a different conversation between mechanics and people who simply drive a car.
Can't there be two? Seems like the discussion about the Henson exhibit would be quite different in the "Henson Fan" area than it would in the "Puppeteer" section of the forum.
