Hey all,
As part of my building of dotBoom2.0, I'm redesigning the puppets. A couple of them will have spherical heads, and here are the current heads for Mojo and Farrah, after five full attempts to get the right shape and size:

Great stuff! Why did you change the colour? Did that have to do with the available fabric, or was that a choice for another reason? Did you rebuild the puppet, or did you just redo the fabric?
If I could, I definitely would.
10 days into my challenge (about half-way through), I have 27 designs up. Now, to be fair, 10 were ones I already had drawn up, and put in in case I didn't actually get to add a new design each day, but that still leaves 17 designs I've done so far, over 10...
I sometimes use a fabric loop (some simple cotton or something, whatever's on hand) and glue it into place. Other times I glue a strip of foam to keep the hands in place, and other times I fill the head with scraps of foam, until it gets tight. Typically I don't have a problem with the chin...
For those of you who have interest in attending, I'm changing the date to January 15th. I'm doing this because December is, apparently, a month where people have a lot of plans, and the hope is that more people would be available to come after the holidays.
Cheers!
Brian
I just wrote a post on the Hoggworks Blog about making caricatures, as Staceyrebecca asked me a while ago, and it got me thinking. I don't think my answer is amazing, but if anyone wants to take a read and offer feedback, that would be very cool...
I remember seeing that, very cool!
I suppose it would be more impressive if I were able to do a finished puppet-a-day for a year, but it's WAY quicker to do a design for one. :)
It occurs to me that the tone of my response might have sounded snippy. If this is the case in any way, I very much apologize.
I thought there was a certain kind of foam -- not quite styrofoam, but nothing as crazy-expensive as reticulated foam -- that was good for carving the heads from a...
I'm thinking of carving the head from a block of foam; I've yet to see reticulated foam in any real size, and I thought there was something denser to use.
Hey all,
If I were to make a sculpted/carved foam head puppet, what type of foam would work best for that? I'm thinking of old-style Miss Piggy heads, Statler & Waldorf, that kind of thing.
Thanks!
Brian
Hey all,
In addition to doing my daily puppet rants for the next three (well, 2.5 at this point) weeks, I'm also putting up at least one puppet design every day for 3 weeks.
If you're curious to see what my designs are -- I'm going to try to be as creative as possible, and come up with...
I just like the look of the extreme underbite. I used that visual in my Boss puppet, and you can tell when his mouth is open without problem.
I would think the monster would look a little more cuddly than much of what's in Star Wars, I should think.
Hey all,
There are a lot of great puppeteers in the Toronto and surrounding areas, and while I'm aware of a bunch of them -- and count a number of them as my friends -- I know there are a raft of great puppeteering talent that I'm totally unaware of. I'm going to guess that a lot of the other...
My thought is to go back to once a week or slightly more after the initial glut; aside from me wanting to force myself to do puppetry daily again, I also want to get a bunch of episodes, a back catalogue, really quickly.
Also, I'm thinking/hoping that because they're on a wide variety of...
Hey all,
One of the various shows I'm working on right now is called The Rant Puppets. I've been doing it off and on for a while, having one of my puppets (typically Brian) ranting semi-hilariously and hopefully somewhat articulately about a specific topic. I'm ramping it up, and am planning on...
