DrTooth, you've gotta check out more of Tim Curry's earlier stuff to see him not play a bad guy. He's really a seriously underrated, under used actor (and yes I'm a huge fan and perhaps a bit biased).
I agree with some of what you're saying, heralde, but why should something be censored on a PRIME TIME show. This is what the song was, what the music is. Heck that's why the song got FAMOUS. People weren't offended by it, they were ENJOYING it, hence why it gained the popularity that it did...
Well, you'd understand it's a lot of tug of war if you were in the industry. I try to negotiate with my clients on a daily basis. Some are easy as pie to deal with, others, it's like pulling teeth and sometimes things happen, sometimes they don't.
Because it's not just a simple matter of people agreeing on a price, unfortunately. It's the legal angles involved. You're right it WOULD be a world of difference if people can just say yes or no I'll pay this or that and that's it. Because one person just doesn't own a piece of whatever it is...
I am wondering if Victor was performing the pug puppet since that was one of the puppets he performed at Stuffed and Unstrung last summer? Although the movements also reminded of that little ferret thing Brian Henson performed in the home video "Muppet Classic Theater"
Well I remember going to see the Puppet Up show in NYC last summer, and I was talking to Leslie Carrera-Rudolph and told her I thought Abby Cadabby was cute and she kind of lightly "shhhed" me that they couldn't even bring up Sesame or Muppets in the show's enviornment, trying to keep the worlds...
I haven't seen the VHS releases of the episodes, so I am not sure if/how they are edited. Also, contractual rights can change from different forms of media. For example, there are a certain set of laws to release a DVD here in the U.S. but if you want to distribute something overseas, there are...
Correct me if I'm wrong but growing up, the back of my Sesame Street records always said "featuring Jim Henson's Muppets" or "The Anything Muppets". So clearly Muppet was the term for the characters themselves, and not so much a brand. Disney probably uses it as a brand and considers MUPPETS the...
I missed the first few minutes of the appearance (when they first came out), but from what I saw, it was alot of fun. And that HAD to be a tribute to the Elton John Muppet Show appearance. If it wasn't intentional, my goodness... lol Fun number though.
I sometimes find I have to keep logging in as it just kicks me out, but I blame our internet connection here at work (I pop on during my lunchbreaks as I am right now :))
I'd vote for Frank Oz or Carroll Spinney. Spinney's autobiography was amazing and I have to honestly say, I enjoyed it more than Kevin Clash's book. I love Kevin too, don't get me wrong, but Spinney's got so much artistic background, etc. that I think it would be great.
Though I do agree with...
I understand where you're coming from, Dr. Tooth, but again, merchandising rights is a whole other layer of legalities that are involved. Just because the Muppets have put out Star Wars products in the past, and George Lucas and Jim Henson may have had lunch together every Sunday for two years...
I think it also has to do with the fact that Sesame Street is a non profit organization, in that any money they make goes right back into the production for the show. They don't advertise, etc.
It's a little more involved than Michael Jackson owning the Beatles songs. He owned the PUBLISHING rights, not full ownership of the songs themselves. Read this link to explain it a little more and a lot better than I ever could: http://www.snopes.com/music/artists/jackson.asp
If the hold up...
The first episode is available with the 40th anniversary book they recently put out by Louise Gikow, as well as on the Sesame Street Old School Volume 1 set.
It was ok. Of course I know the whole show couldn't be about Jim or Sesame Street, but I thought they spent a little too long on some of those other shows. And they showed so many great personalities at the end, and showed a picture of Shari Lewis, how come we didn't see more of her? And I...
You're right, Dr. Tooth. The studios should take a lead after Sesame Workshop did the smart thing and put a video streaming feature on their site to showcase the clips people were throwing up on YouTube.
