    Best & Worst Film & TV: 2012

I like MLP too. I'm not a brony--don't own a single piece of merch and I don't think about the show much--but I do find the cartoon enjoyable, and I have turned a friend on to it. And, well, I just made a Fraggle puppet based on Derpy Hooves. So, yeah, guilty pleasure here too.

    Material Permission question

Yes, yes, yes. And while we're at it, you don't have to get permission from the paper manufacturer to print a book on it.

    Slackbot's derpiest puppet

Given how accident-prone Derpy Hooves is, I'd hate to think what would happen to this Derpster if she got close to a vacuum cleaner. She might get sucked all the way through and end up whole in the tank.

    Material Permission question

Same principle. It is sold to be used. When you buy it, you buy the rights to use it as you see fit.

    Slackbot's derpiest puppet

I bought doll joints on Amazon. Amazon has just about everything. Shoot, I tithe to Amazon.

What Muppet stuff did you get for Christmas?

Hmm... * Animal knit cap, one of those things with the pink braids hanging down * Miss Piggy marshmallow pop. Already eaten.

    Slackbot's derpiest puppet

Thanks, guys! It seems that with each puppet I build I find new problems to deal with. I can't wait until I have enough figured out that I can actually make a puppet without any glitches. Last night I contemplated what it would be like to go a whole day without getting contact cement crud on...

    Slackbot's derpiest puppet

I just don't know what went wrong! I made this puppet, Derpy Toes (a spoof of Derpy Hooves from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) as a goof. I've been getting faster and faster at making puppets. Janken took me months. Skeeter and Shonky took about a month each, and in Shonky's case a...

The “What did you do today?” thread

I did a lot more work on the aforementioned puppet, and I got a Full Perfect Combo AAA in Boom Boom Dollar Heavy, 8 feet, 170 BPM, arrows triple-speeded to 510. If you don't know what that means, don't worry, it's DDR talk.

Weekly Box Office and Film Discussion Thread

Planes. Cars. I liked them better as Tex Avery cartoons.

    The "hand-stitched hands" blues.

Heh, you're using a fancier approach than I do! I just make a hand shape out of florists' wire and glue that in between the sandwich halves. I glue the rod in after the hand is assembled; sewing a hand while a rod is sticking out would be more misery than I can handle.

    Need help with puppet eyes

I use adhesive-backed velvet, the kind you use to line jewelry boxes. You can get it on Amazon.

    The "hand-stitched hands" blues.

Gee, I just spent an evening sewing hands and feet. Henson stitch, no less. Lemme tell you, if there's an easy way to do it, I sure don't know it. In my opinion, if there is an afterlife of eternal torment and suffering for puppet builders, it involves sewing hands! That said, the method I...

"Literally", from the Romano Rant Files

I don't like the way "literally" is used as an intensifier. In fact, I dislike it enough that I rarely use the word myself, as it seems to have lost its meaning. Instead I'll say "without exaggeration" or some other phrase to indicate exactness rather than hyperbole. In my defense, I only got...
