So, right around the time the whole Gelfling race began finding out the Skeksis are evil.
I wasn't wrong about something! YAAAAAAY!
But they didn't say if we're supposed to be writing about the Gathering itself or not.
I already did. There wasn't one.
Anyway, seeing it gave my brain the connection it needed to collapse a few unconnected events into a single cohesive segment. Thank you!

Hold on. I mentioned him in my outline and could've sworn I got his name off the list in the Guide. It's just a small mention, but I gave him a story purpose that only he could fit. I hope we can still use him.
You know what, if we don't get...
I'm thinking (well, hoping) that's just a legal covering-of-their-hind-quarters in the off chance that the winning story can't be weaseled into the established canon.
Do you mean novel-writer, as in professional, as in actually been published?
Contradictions everywhere and not a lick of sense.
I thought the daunting part would only start if I made it to the top five (still a fat chance), but just deciphering the rules and backstory is more than enough to make my head spin. It's like they want to confuse us.
They weren't all your comments. If they were, then you apparently want to see the Dark Crystal universe split into several dozen alternate continuities, because not one comment gelled with another.
This is the biggest problem when you get into writing for an established universe. Everyone has...
I did just reread the official rules, though. It said a complete story.
I'm taking that to mean, no open ends, or setting up a larger arc (which kind of stinks for me, I can't seem to stop myself from doing it).
And thanks for the post, but I need to learn to stop reading the comment section...
I have a Facebook account. I was just looking to see if they had a box specifically for asking questions about the writing contest, to make sure they would be answered.
Vauge detail begets vague detail.
The best course of action is to come up with a story that could feasibly take place at any point in the given timeline (or can easily be rewritten to fit) and iron out the smaller details if and when the story makes it to the top five.
My main problem is, if...
I'm going solely by what the backstory packet says here, since they said that's all you need to know.
Our story is supposed to take place any sufficent period of time after Rian discovered that the Skeksis are evil and is supposed to be about orignal characters beginning the quest to unite the...
At least they've got rules, standards, a definite backstory and it's not going to be the 'If if passes muster, it's published' thing going on over at Amazon. These things are going to be under scrutiny every step of the way. They're not going to let anything stereotypically fan-fic-y through...
Aw, shucks.
I'd love to see Strangepork come back, too. Maybe they'll have a montage of performances from the Muppet's tour and we'll get a brief glimpse of them doing Pigs In Space during it (fat chance, but fingers crossed)!
