Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
Yes, I found the hurricane episode being shown again refreshing for a number of reasons. For one thing, I am currently displaced from my home in the Greater New Orleans area. Secondly, it was great to see them actually show an episode that is out of the current Sesame Street time. Granted...
Thanks, Ziffel. I'm fine. I was vacationing in East Aurora, New York when it hit and now I'm at a hotel in Buffalo. Lots of decisions to make now. My only current access to the internet is the neighborhood library which is not easily accessible to me, but I'll try to pop in here and there...
Come to think of it, I don't recall any skit where Lefty interacted with Bert or any other muppet besides Ernie, his boss, and the policeman in one skit.
Lefty has to keep changing his sales pitch as the snowman shrinks. At the very end, he unenthusiastically asks Ernie to buy "...this little puddle of water."
Another thing I wonder about is the fact that the exact same muppet would be used after all of those years. I read that the muppets usually wear out after a few seasons and have to be replaced. Maybe if it wasn't used very much...?
One thing is certain, there was an early furry red monster...
I believe Noggin also showed the one where Lefty sells Ernie the picture of four elephants and then Ernie tries to trick Bert. This skit was different in several ways. For one thing, it's one of the few times Lefty successfully makes a sale to Ernie, Ernie unsuccessfully tries to trick Bert...
Yes, that was a good one. As the little girl kept expounding about how she was different in every way, the evil Prime Minister finally said, "Okay! Cool it!" and gave up. I seem to remember that the reward for having something that the Prime Minister didn't have was to become emperor. At one...
Interesting. I don't remember the Elmo muppet appearing as early as season two or three, but there was another furry little red monster who was a different muppet than Elmo in shape and appearance. I don't remember his name, but he was usually childlike.
At some point in the early 80's...
Well, in that era, David ran the store, but since he wasn't in the movie, it seemed a little vague as to who was actually minding the store. David really should have been in the movie since his presence at Hooper's store was part of the expected structure on Sesame Street.
I've also wondered...
One skit I'll always remember with Hoots is where he sings "Birdland" at his club. This skit stands out for me because it originally had David in the audience (he may have been the only human there). After 1990, they still showed this skit, but the scenes with David were replaced with...
I had almost forgotten about that one. It was funny. What Lefty should have done was come back in the skit where Cookie Monster wrecks Ernie's scale. His timing as a salesman was terrible. LOL
Oh, yes. I remember that one. It actually scared me as a child. Not sure why because none of the other monsters ever frightened me. I think it may have had something to do with the quickness and surprise of it.
I'd love to see it today, but it hasn't been shown in a long time. I'm...
Ernie and Bert's roles could have been a little bigger in Follow That Bird, but the scenes they were in really worked. I certainly liked their parts better in Follow That Bird than Elmo In Grouchland; in the latter, they weren't even part of the story.
That was great! When I first saw the movie, all during the chase scene, I kept wondering how this was possibly going to be resolved. In any other kind of movie, the heroes would have caught up with them and gotten into a fight to stop the bad guys, but I knew that this wasn't an option in a...
