I think that was probably an error they made. If David would have stayed around long enough, they probably would have given him a last name (not the same as Gordon and Susan though) because that seemed to be the trend in later years.

This whole thing reminds me of a great children's book called "The Big Orange Splot" by Daniel Manus Pinkwater.
It was about a man, named Mr. Plumbean, who lived on a street where all houses were the same. Then one day, the man got a big orange blot of paint splashed on his house...
It's funny because the original Lefty skits were based on old comedy routines where one person successfully conned another. Yet, since this was a children's show, they decided to turn it around and have the con man get the worst of it by having an innocent victim turn the tables.
