Me and the Pajanimals - Licensing Expo

This was so cool! I was attending the Licensing Expo - it was supposed to be all business - but adults turn into children when there are puppets and especially Muppets around. So I got my picture taken! I was told they were back on a plane to New York that afternoon and headed overseas that...

    Cookie Monster Replica

Hey, I made one! Here's a video of it in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy3DumbiL54 I used foam rubber for the "skull" and the mouth is that thin craft foam stuff covered in black felt. The eyes don't "google" but they shake around enough that it looks kinda like they google.

Sassafrass Junction Puppet Theater...celebrating ONE month in business!

You are living the dream my friend. Great video! My workplace just announced pay cuts coming in 6 months. My wife and I decided now is the time to break free... otherwise I might never do it. So we'll be trying to do our own shows early next year. You're an inspiration!

    Copyright...PLEASE HELP!

Dude I think Disney would nail you, if they decided to come after you. Trademark and copyright both exist for a reason -- to protect intellectual property. In this case, I think someone might reasonably confuse your "Moppetz" with the "Muppets," especially since the logo looks very similar and...

    New to Puppet Making.

I have been using Dap contact cement because it's fast drying but man is that stuff toxic. I'm talking outdoors with a respirator. I need to try some other stuff. I'll look into what you recommended. Hot glue seems to work fine temporarily but it doesn't hold up very well. I used it on a couple...

    New to Puppet Making.

Guys, I have a question along these same lines. I have been building puppets for a few years now and I'm wondering, what adhesive does everyone use to join foam seams? Is there anything worth using besides the toxic-fume stuff I currently use? I hate having to go outside and put on a filter mask...

Potentially Opening my own Puppet Theater

Man this is fantastic, and I long to abandon my cubicle for something like this. So you do on-location shows and are setting up a place for folks to come to you? When you do the mobile shows, do you do just puppets, or do you include cupcakes and other party type stuff?

Cookie monster fabric for under 23 a yard?

I made mine with a similar fabric as Cookie up there. I got it from a JoAnne's that was closing. I paid 3 bucks and I got probably fifteen yards of the stuff. Here's my Cookie Monster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy3DumbiL54

Pictures from Building our Puppet Stage

That looks fantastic! My puppet stage is a wobbly, portable thing made from PVC and fabric. Yours looks great. Are you putting this thing together by yourself? I put together a Christmas display last year with plywood and screws and by the time I was done, I never wanted to celebrate Christmas...

    Impromptu puppet show

You guys are gonna think I'm insane, but this was hilariously funny to me last night. It's Cookie Monster pantomiming Poker Face by the inimitable Lady Gaga. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy3DumbiL54 The puppet and the stage are mine. My arm was ready to fall off afterwards!

Original Kermit the Frog donated to the Smithsonian

Does anybody know when these puppets will actually be on display? I'm going to DC in a couple weeks and will be touring the Smithsonian American History Museum. Also, is Kermit back at the Smithsonian, or is he still out touring? Couldn't tell from the Smithsonian website.

    Cookie Monster "replica"

I used styrofoam balls (the kind with a smooth finish) for the eyes and some of that thin "sticky foam" stuff for the pupils. The fur is some blue stuff I bought when a local JoAnne's was closing down several years ago. I have a ton of the stuff left and was always intending on building a...

    Cookie Monster "replica"

He's not really a "replica" but here he is. http://home.comcast.net/~cartoonistaaron/cookie01.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~cartoonistaaron/cookie02.jpg He was built out of spare stuff around the house. A coworker's son has Down syndrome, and he really responds to Cookie Monster. His birthday...

    Puppet Simpsons and Katy Perry

Wow! Those look great! It's tough to turn a 2D cartoon character into a puppet... tough for me anyway. Nice job!

Anyone Performing in Professional Puppet Shows?

I'm glad there are a bunch of us adults (I'm 31) who haven't lost their passion for puppets. My first love was cartooning but that doesn't exactly pay the bills (and I've tried!). Not that running a puppet show business will, either, but I think we all owe it to ourselves to give our dreams a...

Anyone Performing in Professional Puppet Shows?

The puppets look fantastic! From the sound of things, your show is MUCH more elaborate than mine! I'm just one guy, so it's one main puppet and a few other "walk on" simple puppets. I bought a stash of the Oobi eyes to give out, too. Also a bunch of brightly colored socks and stick-on eyes...

Anyone Performing in Professional Puppet Shows?

Chris, that is super cool that you're succeeding at doing puppet shows. I am on the verge of doing the same thing full-time. I've spent years working as a freelance illustrator and, lately, sitting in a cubicle in the corporate world. The money is good but the soul-crushing monotony is bad. I've...

    Pattern advice for designed pupppets

I need help! I've illustrated a children's book and the author has hired me to come up with puppets based on the two main characters. Here they are: I've built puppets in the past but from fairly abstract designs -- never anything like this. I don't mind purchasing a pattern or two if it will...
