I find it really hard to use a monitor too. I found it's easier to look at the puppet mainly, and
only use the monitor now and then to check you’re in the right spot. Mirrors are very easy to
use though. I think it’s the reverse image that is difficult to work with, so if you practice on
your...
Speaking of rods..... I did a similar post but what do people use for arm rods? I use coat hanger wire, sometimes welding rods with a wooden handle. Anything thinner seems to be too weak.
I notice Muppets have a very thin rod. What do they use?
Thanks for the Rick Lyon link. It looks like the arms in the picture both twist outwards in sync. I think Tutter from Bear in big Blue house moves this way sometimes.
I think I may have just have one moving arm and the other non moving arm with wire inside to keep the shape. I've altered the...
I was going to have one hand to opperate the puppet's head and the other hand would operate one hand.... or I could swap now and then because the internal rod would hang about an inch below the bottom of the puppet so I can reach easily.
I agree that the normal arm rods would be more...
Ok heres the plan. It's only in my head and I havent tested it yet.
DESIGN
Basically the movement is from the lower elbow. The green wooden rod is along the inside of the shirt or body. When you twist it should make the arm twist back and forth too. Now there is a lever to move the elbow...
I'm thinking about making an internal arm rod puppet to ad to the illusion. The cable and rod runs inside the puppet's body. I’ve got a few designs in my head to make the elbow bend and arms open outwards then back on the puppet's tummy. Plan B will be just to make the rod through the elbow...
When you say animatronic do you mean radio controlled or just cable
control?
Making cable control puppets aren’t too difficult, you just rid up each mech to a fishing line, thread it through small tubes or through curtain wire. I find curtain wire works better because there is less...
WOW :D I love that jaw mech! I've made a similar wooden model. I don't have a camera but I've drawn a design of it.

I like the ring under your mouth lever. I may put a ring under my trigger too. I rest my thumb on the back peice to move it side to side or up and down and the...
I'm making a Rizzo/Pepe type character. Original thread here
But where can I get some thin arm rods? To use wire or welding rods on such a small arm look way to thick. Does anyone know what type of rods they use for Pepe or Rizzo? They look almost invisible on the tv.
Put your thumb behind the wooden part (opposite side of trigger). Then you can move it up and down or side to side, and the head does the same movement. It feels pretty comfortable.
It works I've already made the frame. =D To join the neck spring I drilled a small hole on the neck and head...
Hi I’m new on this forum.
I think I’ve worked out a way to make a Pepe, Rizzo type character. I’ve made a frame already and it works well.
Look at my drawing -
