    Copyrights, Fan-Art, and You

Lucasfilm has been good about not going after fan made stuff because they've realised how huge it is and all that stuff is essentially free advertising, and lets be honest, the fans are doing a much better job of keeping the dignity of star wars than Lucas himself. Besides the fact that going...

Is there a pattern for a Kermit puppet?

Aw what the heck, I too wanna derail the thread for a bit. The secrecy is something I also find annoying, at times. I try to help anyone that asks me for my meagre skills and advice, I'm always open and happy to share how I make mine. There does seem to be this "you haven't earned the right...

Is there a pattern for a Kermit puppet?

Yeah, you're not gonna find a blueprint pattern for a Kermit. The only thing out there are these things; Plushie pattern, and photo of a pulled apart master replicas poser. http://www.innisanimation.com/puppets/kermit.htm...

    What foam is this?

Their foam looks like regular upholstery type stuff, but I don't think anyone could tell exactly what density from pics alone. I know I read in an interview with Zack their fleece is a custom made material from a supplier, for their needs, but given they work with blocks of foam to sculpt from...

Where can I buy/rent/custom order professional puppets?

Only thing off the top of my head like that is probly Scott Radke's stuff. http://www.scottradke.com/ Might be expensive and time consuming if you want multiple puppets and especially custom made, but yeah, give him an email and ask about maybe renting or somethin if you like his stuff.

    Making Full-Bodied Puppet Costumes

What you're talking about doing is high grade movie animatronics kinda stuff, where they punch fur into the latex face, for something like chewbacca, I know his fur was Yak hair, but not sure how they attached it for the suit. Attaching your own fur to a fabric would be more trouble than it's...

Henson's Puppet-Friendly "Stuffed and Unstrung" to Play NY

Seems to be because this is a family friendly version, whereas Puppet Up did the comedy festival rounds and stuff where it's generally an adults only deal. IN B4 relocated thread!

    Eye Sizing

Yeah, that's really one no one can answer for you. You're just going to have to determine what you want your character to look like and make judgements for yourself, or show the forum exactly what size everything is and post as much info as possible. Try doing some sketches how you want the...

    Bunsen Honeydew mouth

Ah, ok. Yeah, you're right, because the inside of the mouth is black, the opening of the mouth can very well be smaller than what's going on behind it, especially given the fact the opening is small and 'D' shape as you say. The hand grip inside inside could be standard enough [flat mouthplate]...

    Bunsen Honeydew mouth

I guess you mean how dense the foam is or rather how much is carved out from the inside. Does look like there would only be minimal foam removal inside, maybe very thick all around because of the way the head seems sturdy and doesn't flex.

    Rod Puppet Sculpting

Although I haven't tried it, I've got an old puppet making book that recommends a product called 'Plastic Wood'. Sculpting a head out of plastacine, covered with petrollium jelly so it doesn't stick, the plastic wood is applied thinly over it and left to harden, then cut a section out of the...

    Full-Bodied Muppet Mechanics?

There's a line that runs from the right, [unused arm] wrist, up to the neck, down to the left wrist. It see-saws. You can see it flash in the first of those two videos you linked to. At one point when he's sitting down it looks to move up on it's own.. that would have to be one for ravagefrackle...

Anyone used papercraft programs for patterning?

I'm talking about the type of computer programs people use to make 3D paper models, papercraft, where people convert a 3D computer model to be flattened out and can be printed out, cut out, and folded into a papercraft model. Replica prop makers often use them as a guide with their fibreglass...

    Pupil Material

Just about everyone here uses those little adhesive felt dots to put under stuff so it's doesn't scratch shinny surfaces. I've just cut circles out of black electrical tape. Puts a little shine on the pupil, which I dig.

    My new Cat puppet

Not sure what you refer to specifically, but the skull is just carved foam, and it's covered with faux fur sewn together. If you saw the underside of the fur skin, you'd see the mess of seams trying to get it to shape to the foam head. Actually, the whole puppet is hand sewn. No idea how many...

    My new Cat puppet

Cheers for the kind words guys. Sorry Alvin, I don't make custom puppets. I'm too slow and not experienced enough to be making ones for other people.

    My new Cat puppet

Hey people, I just finished my cat puppet and thought I'd share. http://www.puppethub.com/photo/albums/cat-puppet Thinking of naming him Jimmy Boots, but not sure what kind of voice/character he should have. His character was going to be whiney junkie, back alley no good, but now he came out...

    Puppet Material Question

Anything. It's an artistic pursuit and there are no rules. It's like asking "what can I use to make a sculpture?". You are only limited by your creativity and imagination. Tackle it from the end, backwards. What you want to see as the finished result and go from there.

What do you use to build a puppet's mouth?

I use the plastic covers from old A3 spiralbound sketchbooks. I got a pile of them under my bed, but ice cream tub lids would be about the same. Fun too.
