Has anyone else ever wondered this?

You just have to create your own opportunities. (Like another chap from Minnesota - Joel Hodgson - who cobbled together a few puppets from thrift store junk and wound up with a Peabody Award winning cable show.) -- Scraps Amen to creating your own opportunities. What some people also...

    Jim Henson 101

:p Another I would've really liked to have been a part of was Peter Paul and Mary's Christmas concert that they always show on PBS. What a great concert! I got to see PP&M in concert at Wolf Trap in VA several years ago. Truly a great show..I sang all night, much to the chagrin of my...

    Jim Henson 101

Dusty, I'm quite curious about the course you're taking. Moreover, who is your instructor? I'm a puppeteer with a solo company in South AL, (Mobile area) and have been a Henson devotee since I was a child (like most everyone else here). I recently performed shows at the Kentuck Festival in...

    Muppet Shops & Travel

If you're going to CT, you might want to see the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. This is also the only university in the country to offer undergrad and grad degrees in puppet arts. Matleo and I are both graduates of this program. well worth...

The Foam Book Videos 4 SALE

I'll be seeing Drew Allison at the Puppeteers of America Festival next week. I'll ask him what his take on it is. I've know him for years and he is, as Buck assumes, a nice guy. Buck is absolutely correct in that Grey Seal is basically a "mom and pop" organization. Granted, they're not going...

    O'Neill Puppetry Conference

I think I heard my name.... I have not done the O' Neil conference...too expensive, though, from what I hear, its worth the money. I believe there are also scholarships available. David

    Puppeteers of America Festival

Hey Matt! I'll be doing "Billy Goats Gruff and Other Stuff." At the moment I'm having to rebuild half the puppets...after three years of hard touring, its time for new puppets. Things are fine here...just about to kick off the summer tour of libraries. I also worked with a...

    Puppeteers of America Festival

Nationals are the best to attend because they last the entire week with at least two shows per day...plus the benefit of being around some extremely talented people. I haven't been to the last three fests, but they invited me to perform this year, so that's how I can afford to go...gonna be a...

    Puppeteers of America Festival

Just wondering if there was anyone on MC who would be attending the National Puppeteers of America Festival in Tahlequah, OK this year.

    Jim's banjo design

I saw the design for the proposed Jim Henson figure and I love everything except the design for the banjo. I wondered if the designer actually looked at a banjo before it was drawn. The neck of the banjo has the wrong head-stock and the design indicates 6-strings. The Muppet Jim's banjo (and...

    Puppetguy's avatar!

The Country Trio have always been favorites...shame they were only used on TMS twice in the first season. And pics of them are so hard to find! I've always wondered why the Frank puppet had orange hair.. Its also interesting to me how many of Jim's characters played the banjo. Rowlf...

    Puppetguy's avatar!

Whoo-hoo! I'm so excited to join the ranks of the avatar-ers. MUCH thanks to Foreignman for creating Muppet Jim with the banjo! A banjo picker/Muppet lover's avatar dream come true! So happy I could sing "Tomorrow.." well, maybe tomorrow. David

    Different Kinds of Puppets

I'm not sure about online stores, but you can buy foam rubber at any good fabric store. I usually use PCF foam, a type of filter foam, that's a bit more expensive. I'd stick with polyfoam (the cheaper type that's easily available) while you're experimenting. There's also a great book called...

    Different Kinds of Puppets

Great puppets! The dragon is wonderful! And the pink guy has a lot of character! You complain about weight, have you ever tried working with foam rubber? Much lighter and really easy to work with once you understand the basics of working with it. As far as voices, try playing with the...

    Darts

Try making a pattern out of paper before you start using the foam. Brown wrapping paper (also called butcher paper) is great for pattern making. This will save you some foam while you're experimenting.

    NewsRadio

I loved this show, too. And if you think about it, which I've obviously done too much of, the show parallels The Muppet Show in a lot of ways....here's Dave Nelson, the Kermit, if you will, who has to keep this group of crazies together to make a news radio program. And the characters are so...

I want to be a Muppet puppeteer

As I have learned from some of the puppeteers in the television industry, its all about who you know and being in the right place at the right time...it also helps to have good skills as a puppeteer. My question would be: Do you want to work exclusively for the Muppets or do you want to be a...
