I'm pretty sure they did. Billy - or Snake - Nikssilp from Camp Camp is also based on him. Though Billy/Snake is a bit more of an obvious reference because of his name and hair color. (Also, I must admit - When I first saw Billy/Snake, I was almost immediately reminded of Hoss.)
