Thanks Carl! Giving the TRU Whatnot the snazzier jacket really plussed him up. That and a little extra Velcro to hold the nose, eyes, and hair down a little better, and he almost looks hot-glued.
Hot glue version on the left (with added TRU moustache and goatee); TRU Velcro version on the right:
(BTW, the hot-glue FAO monster is wearing a TRU jacket, and the TRU Whatnot is wearing the monster's original tux, which I don't think is available for the kit puppets.)
I missed this thread as the better place to post my side-by-side hot-glue vs. Velcro Whatnot photo...plus my thoughts on the TRU kit, which I just bought. Here's the photo; the rest is in the Whatnot thread in the Merchandise section.
I became aware of these a bit late, having been out of "Muppet" touch a while, and just this week decided to bite the bullet and get an orange one. I already had one of the hot-glue Whatnots (a Christmas gift a couple of years ago), and I was glad that it's a blue one because the blue kit is...
When I saw the Walter plush at the Disney Store the other day, its old-school charm reminded me for some reason of a Muppet my Mom made me when I was very young, and which I never really knew the back story on. All I remembered was that she said it was a Muppet, but because it was home-made and...
Over the weekend I saw the awesome blue and orange Whatnot Muppets at Toys R Us for the first time. The top eyes in the orange one's selection (round and lidded) would look great on this Walter "puppet." I passed at the time but plan to get it next time I see it. Since I think those are the same...
Here's an amateur modification of the Walter puppet beyond the basic unstuffing and mouth-insert trimming I had already done. It looked like a real Muppet to me, except for the puffy eyeballs and embroidered pupils, so I carefully removed them, leaving the lids (the lash lines came out too as...
Get some cuticle scissors or a knife blade and pull the shirt and pants apart in the back until enough thread is exposed to snip it. It will start to pull apart easily...then just use some white thread to sew the edges at both hips so it doesn't come apart further. It's all covered by the...
None whatsoever, but if I could sew I would stitch the edges of the opening between his shirt and pants I made. It looks like it will continue to separate, and would be an easy stitch on either side. Of course, you can opt to remove the pants altogether, classic-style, in which case you have the...
I've started removing the eyes to replace them with plastic spoons (I'm leaving the lids, but the lashes come out along with the whites). If they turn out decently I'll post photos in a few days...otherwise he's getting little sunglasses!!
Here's a photo of the above Walter...positioned on a water bottle alongside the unaltered plush, and also on my hand (fingers only...the head's too small for my whole hand). In just ten minutes you too can have a cool Walter puppet...or at least a more realistic display!
Here it is...the ten-minute Walter puppet! He's displayed alongside the regular plush, and he's positioned on a water bottle. The bottom two show my fingers manipulating the mouth, but remember it's just my middle two fingers above and my index finger and pinky below...your hand won't likely fit...
I posted in your other thread, but today I made a Disney Store plush into a great Walter puppet. Separate the back of his shirt from the pants, pull all the stuffing out of his body and the lower part of his head (in his chin). Them carefully cut the plastic lower-mouth insert to better conform...
