The New "Am I the Only One" Thread

Am I the only one who has absolutely no idea what The Gorillaz are supposed to be? I mean I got the impression it was some kind of (underground) anime, but are they actually a real band (well, as real as, say Alvin and The Chipmunks, or The Archies, or The Partridge Family)?
  2. Sgt Floyd Well-Known Member

I have been trying to figure that one out myself. I think there are physical albums you can buy

I vaguely recall a segment on Cribs or something showing one of their houses...
  3. Drtooth Well-Known Member

I'd say, considering the Arthur fan you are, they're kind of like Binky. Somewhere between The Chipmunks and Binky... that's how I'd describe it. An animated band (they've had holograph performances, I swear they have) with an impressive soundtrack you'd expect from an actual band. I LOVED these guys, though I didn't buy any of the CD's. I wish they were still around. it was AMAZING!

Considering how fake and prefab a lot of bands are these days, it was refreshing to see one that felt like an actual band.

Anyway, here's another "am I the only one"

Am I the only one that wants to dope slap a weatherman in the face when they say "we need rain?"

Because everytime they say that, we get about 2 weeks worth of rain and 2 weeks worth of cloudy, dreary skies with chances of light rain. EVERY time... every single time they say that, especially in April and May (the rainiest months here unless March is very rainy).
  4. Beakerfan Active Member

Maybe the weathermen around here should start talking more about how we need rain, lol. We're still only at like, 50% of our normal annual rainfall.
  5. Sgt Floyd Well-Known Member

Holograph performances? Man, I didn't realize they were that popular. I don't think I've ever heard any of their stuff...

Other than the fact our energy provider can't wire anything for crap and the slightest wind will cause our power to go out, I don't mind the rain.
  6. D'Snowth Well-Known Member

Well, that certainly does clear things up somewhat.
Yes, but for different reasons: see, around these parts, half of the time they say we're going to get rain, or mostly cloudy conditions, we get just the opposite, and believe me, down here when it's hot nine out of twelve months out of the year, clouds and rain are a welcome change! Maybe it's my own eccentricities, but I prefer a cloudy day over a sunny day, to me, there's something soothing and relaxing about a cloudy day.

No... I'm not saying the weatherman says we're getting rain and we're getting rain.

I'm also not saying that once he says "we need rain" it rains a little.

I'm saying, every single time we're gone through a period where we had just under what we should get for rain, the weather forecaster says "Oh, we should have more rainfall by now" and we get endless rain and dreary days for weeks on end. We effectively go from almost a drought to flooding situations whenever they say that. it doesn't help that, at least here, our rainy period is anywhere from March (we had a TERRIBLE flood in the matter of a day a couple years back) to May (which can be the rainiest month in the year over here). Literally, when they say it anytime in May, the ENTIRE MONTH is a washout.

So again, I'm not saying "chance of sprinkles here and there," I'm saying freaking torrential downpours followed by days of murkiness. Not even cloudiness... murkiness. We always get our rain eventually.. it seems like it's tempting fate.

I've seen a bunch of cosplays and fan art before on deviantART, so I tried to do some research, but even their Wikipedia article makes no sense.
  9. Drtooth Well-Known Member

They try very hard to hide the fact it's a fictitious band.

They were really popular sometime in the past decade, but unfortunately, you don't see them around anymore. Seriously, they had the BEST music videos I've seen in decades. Music videos all suck now (except for Lady Gaga... at least SHE knows how to make a freaking music video).

ok, am i the only one who wants toonami back?!?!? i mean, i saw the april fools day prank on adult swim, on april 1st, and stayed up intill 6am to watch the WHOLE BLOCK! (and btw, i know it was an april fools day thing, but still!)
  11. Sgt Floyd Well-Known Member

I never watched toonami so I don't care either way. And I feel bad for you for watching the whole thing.
  12. Lola p Well-Known Member

ok, as an add on to my last post, i just looked on wikipedia, and they said THEY ARE LOOKING AT BRINGING IT BACK!!! yes, yes, yes, yes,!:electric::) oh, by the way, if i am too happy about this i apologize, it is just, toonami and the muppets were what i grew up with...... just having it back would make me so happy. :excited:
  13. Lola p Well-Known Member

    what do u mean?
  14. Sgt Floyd Well-Known Member

I couldn't watch adult swim's entire block. I can't even stomach watching anything thats after King of the Hill
  15. Lola p Well-Known Member

The only reason why I was watching it was toonami.... I thought it was back the next night, and had to sit thought (ack) family guy..... On another note, am I the only 1 who relished, just now, that frank oz is in monsters inc.?
  16. Drtooth Well-Known Member

Considering I don't have cable... YES! I think Funimation and One Piece were ROYALLY screwed because CN wanted to drop it just as they started showing their version of the dub. And that hurt the show's popularity over here. Now we're slowly starting to get some merchandising because they're streaming it.

At any rate, and again I don't have cable but I don't like how cable channels are run, CN should STOP showing crappy live action movies from 10 years ago (what they replaced Toonami with) that you can see on any given other channel that has movies or even at the bargain bin of a Wal*Mart. It's CARTOON Network. Not crappy, cheap movies that belong on syndication on a Sunday Afternoon Network.

I really don't like how they expanded adult swim an hour earlier JUST to accommodate KOTH, a show that doesn't even fit with the other adult swim shows... even the Saved By the Bell reruns were at least there ironically. KOTH belongs on local syndication and FX. Give the 10PM spot to regular Cartoon Network shows again.

like that show level up? it is..... to say the least... in my opinion, horrible!
  18. Drtooth Well-Known Member

Live action shows, ESPECIALLY the ones they stole from Discovery Kids's 2003 line up, have NO PLACE on a network with the word "Cartoon" in the title. Sure, if they want to make live action Ben 10 and Scooby-Doo movies, at least those were cartoons. But NO ONE likes live action on Cartoon Network, and most of the time, it fails. They NEVER learned their lesson from Out of Jimmy's Head.

Anyone else use hulu from time to time?

Am I the only one that HATES the "Choose your advertising experiance" crap when they have Chevy commercials? I ignore them anyway, why do I want to choose which one I ignore?
  19. D'Snowth Well-Known Member

Cartoon Network not wanting to play cartoons anymore has been a problem plaguing them for almost as long as TV Land not wanting to play classic television anymore... I mean seriously, nobody likes their original sitcoms, yet they keep cranking them out with has-been actors... did we REALLY need a sitcom fictionalizing Fran Drescher's divorce?
  20. Sgt Floyd Well-Known Member

    The what now?
I've only seen commercials but it seems to imply the stereotypes of gamers. Am I wrong?

That girl character I want to whack in the face with a keyblade :p Just from the commercials she grates my nerves
