Wembley's forced to choose to go to the Great Hall and see Convincing John with Boober or go and help Gobo get his postcard. But Wembley's having a hard enough time deciding which side of the bed he wants to get out on. Eventually, he follows Gobo up to the hole to outerspace, and Gobo is complaining that he needs to stop wembling about everything. When he goes to get his postcard, Gobo falls through a hole in the ground, because Doc's fixing the plumbing. Returning back without a postcard, he and Wembley decide to go back and get a rope.
Meanwhile, Convincing John has arrived, and is in the Great Hall convincing everyone to wear clown noses. When Gobo and Wembley return, Gobo goes out to get his postcard, while Wembley decides where to tie the rope to; the rock or the pipe. But he didn't have enough time to choose, for Gobo fell through again. After Gobo climbs out, he gets the postcard, and when he gets back, he gets mad at Wembley for what happened. Gobo says that one of these days, you'll have to stop wembling.
As Wembley's in his room, feeling down about what just happened, Boober walks in, wearing a clown nose. Wembley is shocked to see that of all the Fraggles, John convinced Boober to wear one...Boober goes on to say that he could convince a Gorg to think he was a Doozer. Wembley has an idea...he's going to go to Convincing John and get him to convince Wembley to not wemble anymore.
Once he's there, he meets the Fragglettes, John's backup singers, and they ask him to choose the course he wants; and they are "be normal," "be more sure of yourself," and "be absolutely sure about yourself." Wembley chooses the third one, then John appears, singing his famous song once again, while at the same time, convincing Wembley to be more sure of himself. John even convinces Wembley to change his name to Wilfred. But before the song even ends, Wembley cuts off the singing Fragglettes by saying that since he chose the course, he can say when the song is finished. And with that, Wembley- I mean Wilfred- is off...
The other four are in Gobo's room, wondering if it was a good idea to let Wembley go to see John. Just then, Wilfred shows up, telling them that he's through with the name Wembley. He then goes on to tell Gobo that they will exchange beds, then he tells Mokey that he no longer wants to work with the fire alarm, and says his new job will be to go to the Gorg's Garden and get radishes from now on. Then he tells Red that he's going to organize the swim meets from now on, and tells Boober that he's found a new way of dealing with the laundry. Then he tells all four of them that they need to all go into outerspace for a visit. The other four follow, but beg him not to go. Wilfred ignores them anyway, and as soon as he gets through the hole, he falls through the ground, just like Gobo did earlier.
Once he's dragged out and regains conciousness, he says that he's learned from his mistake, and they shall all try again. But the other four stop him this time, saying that they need to take him back to Convincing John. John Fraggle is having some difficulty, however; this is where we see the true Convincing John---he has a hard time making up his mind, and as he's singing, "Gotta Choose Right," the other five watch in amazement that John can't make up his mind either. John says that's how he's able to convince others. Wilfred gets really mad and leaves, seeing how much of a wembler John Fraggle is.
Gobo tells John that they want their old Wembley back, so John puts him through a test of choices. First, Wilfred has to pick between door number one and door number two. He chooses number one, and behind it is two kinds of banana tree shirts; one that's white, and the other is yellow. Wilfred chooses white, then John shows him what was behind door number two, and it's a new fire alarm for their station. Wilfred realizes that would have been better, and wishes he chose that one. Then John makes him decide what to eat; the sweetest and oldest doozer tower ever made, or rarest vegetable ever; a mushmellon. John says he can have one or the other, but he can't have both. Wilfred starts to crack, then Wembley finally says, "I can't decide!" The old Wembley is back, and he tells them it's okay to call him Wembley again, if they'd like.
