Gwen Ifill died of cancer yesterday at the age of 61.
She was one of the most talented and respected journalists of our time. She helped break down barriers for journalists who were women and people of color. She was calm and level headed in the face of chaos. She was always respectful and asked the right questions. And every time you saw her on your TV you felt welcome, she seemed like such a warm person, with that bright smile and her calming presence. No matter what was going on in the news, she seemed reassuring in a way. Journalism and TV news won't be the same without her.
