Maximum Throughput Inc.: Jim Henson's Creature Shop Orders Second Sledgehammer... then a Third!

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 2003--

Computer animation facility drives production with a

total of three Sledgehammer systems

Maximum Throughput Inc. (www.max-t.com), a developer and provider of high-performance, enterprise-class networked storage solutions, announced today that London, UK-based Jim Henson's Creature Shop (TM) (www.creatureshop.com) has acquired two new Sledgehammer NAS systems for its computer graphics department.

"Having recently secured some big projects, we needed to find a solution that significantly improved our ability to move large amounts of data between our various departments," said Aurelio Campa, Technical Manager of computer graphics at Jim Henson's Creature Shop. "Our initial success with Sledgehammer HD!O led us, of course, to put it on our short list."

The visual effects facility's second Sledgehammer was purchased in support of their work on one of this summer's visual effects blockbusters.

Sledgehammer had already proved itself in terms of performance and reliability on "Sesame Street 4D Movie Magic" for Universal Studios theme parks. With original servers choking under the strain of dealing with a large format stereo project, the Shop evaluated the market for both NAS and SAN solutions and then decided on a second Sledgehammer.

"Sledgehammer's speed was the key decider," added Campa, "Not only is it the fastest NAS server available, it's built from commodity components which we can freely upgrade whenever we like. So our Sledgehammers will always get faster. As before, our decision was a sound one. Sledgehammer #2 performed extremely well under the strain of producing digital effects to tight deadlines."

As the work queue filled with more projects, the Creature Shop had to expand their capabilities quickly. "Once again we needed to look at additional server/network infrastructure," said Aurelio Campa. "Ultimately, Sledgehammer's speed, use of commodity components, and unique video/digital film features led us to opt for our third Sledgehammer."

The sales were brokered by Tyrell, one of the UK's premier solution providers and among the first dealerships to embrace Max-T technology. "There's nothing like a follow-up sale to validate our decision to carry a product," said Simon Brett, managing director at Tyrell. "Sledgehammer helps us showcase our expertise while delivering top value to our customers."

Sledgehammer is a combination of smart software and commodity hardware, optimised for moving digital content at unparalleled speeds onto or off of an IP-based network. Sledgehammer HD!O can consolidate all the storage needs of a post-production facility, including HD material, regardless of the data sets in use. Sledgehammer HD!O provides, via a web-based interface, real-time SD and HD resolution video I/O capabilities, including the capability of capturing EDL-defined material. And since Sledgehammer HD!O is a true NAS device (in fact, the world's fastest NAS), all networked users (Windows, UNIX, Linux, Mac, etc.) can access the same data at the same time.

Unique in the industry, Max-T has no license transfer fees associated with its products. As commodity hardware gets faster, so will Sledgehammer HD!O-with no additional software-related costs. Customers need only purchase their own new hardware at prevailing commodity pricing.
