I remember the song with a lady in the 1970's. The lyrics were something like: " you put a piece of carbon paper under your heart and gave me a copy of your love... with smudges"

I believe the music was " It's has been a long, long time".

Can anyone send me the lyrics sung by that lady in the 70's in the muppet show?

I cannot trace it.

Please write to me at gracovetsky@videotron.ca
Thank you

I know this was an old thread, but I would also like to find the lyrics to this song. I need them for a fanfic. I tried searching for it on Google but this was the only thing that showed up.

Okay, so I'm listening to it over and over trying to figure out all of these lyrics. Some of these lyrics might be wrong:
You put a piece of carbon paper under your heart
And gave me just a copy of your love
Each dove and pigeon'll
Know who got the original
Darling, can't you see
What you mean to me?
Oh, how you fooled me
With those giggles, winks, and nudges.
The love that you gave me
Was a duplicate with smudges.
'Cause you put a piece of carbon paper under your heart
And gave me just a copy-
Here we go, everybody-
[instrumental]
Oh, how you fooled me
With those giggles, winks, and nudges
The love that you gave me
Was a duplicate with smudges.
'Cause you put a piece of carbon paper under your heart
And gave me just a copy of
Gave me just a second sheet of love.

Thanks very much. That is what I needed.
I loved that song. :sympathy:
My kids taught it to me.

The version I heard many years ago was with the dog :sympathy:. It was much more hilarious that Annie.

I know what you're talking about, but I can't seem to find a video of it. I think it was Phyllis George who sang it with Rowlf, but I'm not certain.

Yes, Carbon Paper was sung in the Muppet Show Season 4 with Rowlf and Phyllis George. Annie Sue sung it in the Muppet Show Season 3. Rowlf also sang it solo on the "Ol' Brown Ears Is Back" album.
