I know what you mean, I don't know, mine were pretty oval - but I did something wrong, obviously. I wonder - does it matter if you use 4 vs. 5 panels? (or more, or less?)
That makes sense too - it's kind of what I did actually. It was wider on the bottom, but still came out fairly square. This time I will do a paper prototype first. I searched around for wedge and body but found no wedge method of making a body... some links to your old Bear town site Buck, but...
Dome Eyes
Well I got both versions finally. The white ones you see are from the lady on ebay. They are nice, they have a post with a nut too which is great. I guess I'll have to paint on the pupil to use them. I got a whole bag of them.
Problem is, they are too small for my puppet LOL...
The balls make a lot of sense, I love the Peas Sean :D - Looking at those, I can see how it could be sliced a bit and made more cylindrical. Sean, where did you find those? I think I will try that.
Well, I'm on to the body. I was doing the method in the foam book where you string patterns together (like a paper chain of shapes) then glue them together. I did 4 panels (and maybe that is my problem) and it came out pretty much square! :o
So, my question is - is it simply a matter of making...
Looking forward to that Phantom, although for those of us who don't have a whole lot of extra time, just buying them outright is really helpful. Were I doing this professionally, I'd be all for crafting them myself. Maybe if I continue on with this I'll take a look into it.
I have a Michael's...
Well, I've been really studying the noses as I watch the Season 1 DVD. I think the noses that I'm thinking about - Beeker, Fozzy - I think they are foam. What do you think? Especially looking at some stills, they look like some kind of dyed foam. Is it possible to 'carve' foam that smoothly...
Thanks guys. I wonder, why not use wood spheres? They could easily be painted and then you wouldn't have to mold anything. Sure they'd be slightly heavier, but I can't think much. You could drill out part of the back of it to reduce the weight too.
I have no idea how to mold stuff anyway :) In...
I talked to a lady there and she claimed I could paint them no problem. I ordered some, we'll see. I'm not sure what size William, I ordered 1/5", 1.75" and 2" versions. How do you make yours?
Thanks Ravage - looks like

For anyone interested, they have what they call 'hemi head' (hemisphere head I assume) in various sizes. The measurement is the diameter across the opening.

That is one of the pages - they are clear though...
Hi guys,
I've searched in vain, both here and on the internet for a dome eyes supplier. I found mcginnis puppets on a thread here by Buck, but their site no longer exists. Can anyone point me to a supplier with those eyes?
Thanks
Tom
Thanks Jinx - yeah, those eyes are just quickly pinned on there so I could get an idea of placement. I think I want white eyes. At any rate, doing the pupil after is a good idea. I'm going to try and find some dome eyes before I continue with the face. I also need to decide if I'm going to do...
Thanks Jinx for the tips. I'm not sure how I would have done some of the sewing though on machine, probably because I don't know the right process. Seems like some of it could only be done on the puppet. Great idea about the dome eyes, I'll search it out. I'll take another look at your site too...
