Anyone else think that D A is a bit stuck up?

Anyway, seems I've hit a nice streak with This Sam the Eagle piece. Seems like I got several favorites a day since I posted it... and that was just 2 days ago.
Congrats! Yeah, I uploaded a batch last night (10+ deviantions) and I think there has been a positive response, judging by the faves/comments. I'm really grateful for having such suportive watchers.

My wife is very supportive, and believe it or not, there is a significant element of appreciating the human form as art, and not purely erotic. Keeping in mind this is a family forum, I won't go into specifics or details, but she encourages me.
I totally understnad that, I'm all for artistic nude/life art, just not "artistic" *porn*.

Lemme just say, I'm sure that a LOT of artists (myself included) draw stuff that they wouldn't show anyone else. I remember Jim Davis said that he loved to doodle random crazy things, and some things he can't publish at all. There's a line from a Youtube poop I'd love to draw (I drew one from the same poop... the Herry and Grover talking about cake), but I really don't wanna use that sorta language. And frankly, you have to learn to draw a nude figure at some point to be able to draw the human body right. It's actually much easier to draw clothing that way, since you get the drapery right.

Exactly. Having a further understanding of the structure of the human anatomy helps with proportion and, as you said, how to draw clothes. I mean, even if a person's style isn't 100% realistic (I know mine's not) I still reckon learning how to draw the body and to study it's proportions is so beneficial for any artist.
And I can see where you're coming from when you say you draw things you wouldn't show others as I can relate to that. Pretty clean compared to most things out there, but I drew a picture of these these nazi women. Now, obviously this is going to get a reaction, some worse than others, as even my friend got these impressions that the picture was about praising these characters. But that wasn't the case, of coarse. I don't support nazi's at all, but I do aknowledge the fact that it's all part of history, and it's not like I portrayed these female characters as angels or whatever, they looked pretty grotesque. Some people would know where I'm coming from, while others would avoid that sort of thing all together.

As for coarse language, I generally don't use a lot of it in my art. I must say, I do use a number of innuendos, but an excessive amount of it foul language (esp. if it's just plain unnecessary, out of context stuff) doesn't suit my characters. Generally speaking my more random, spontaneous pictures are pretty clean, though. Funny to hear about Jim Davis though, I would've had *no* idea!

Well, if I showed you what I mean, which I won't... (if you REALLY want to know what I mean, PM me... ) it really isn't horrible. it's one of those it sounds like he said this when he didn't deals.

Kiki, am I following you on DA? I thought I was, but I didn't get any updates that you uploaded new stuff. Can you post us a link here to your page?

You know, I've always wondered how Jim would feel knowing so much of his doodles have been published since he passed. I love them, you love them, we all love them, but a lot of them seem to be quick breezy sketches he never intended anyone to see. They're not bad, thay just don't show off how artistic and good he was.

That's the difference between a doodle and a drawing. When I doodle, I basically make odd eye expressions... not faces... just eyes and mouths. And the odd off model cartoon or something like that. That's stuff I wouldn't show anyone because I don't care all that much about them. But doodles are very important. They reveal the basis for a creator's vision. A lot of cartoon characters (and in this case, Muppets) came off of messing around.

I feel the same; in rare cases, I won't refine doodles with "final drafts" if I can't seem to give them anything beyond that... that's been the cases for the origins of the characters for my old comic strip series from the early and mid 2000s... or even The Squirrely Squirrels.

That's where evolution plays a factor... look at Big Bird for example, he first looked pretty much like one of Jim's doodles of a large, lanky lark, before he evolved into the plumb and full-headed bird we all know and love today.

Ehh... just wondering. Does anyone ever check out my non-Muppet stuff? I have a lot of obscure and fun fan arts in there too that I'm sure you can enjoy.

I check out all your stuff Drtooth, as I've said many times before, I like your style, and the stuff you whip up is pretty great.

At the same time, again, it's obvious nobody cares about my non-Chipmunk art... so... I dunno... I guess I'll whip up something for my watchers in the future... been thinking about doing 80s/90s Brittany doing her "Single Ladies" bit from the squeakquel.
